New Zealand Cricket confirmed on Monday that Chapman and Ravindra will miss the upcoming ODI series in India as they have not sufficiently recovered from their respective injuries.
Chapman requires an additional two weeks of rehabilitation for his left hamstring injury, according to a recent MRI scan, while Ravindra's right shoulder needs more recovery time before he can field at full capacity. The injuries have forced NZC to shuffle its squad composition for the five-match series commencing Wednesday.
To compensate for the absences, wicketkeeper Tim Seifert, initially selected for only the fourth and fifth ODIs, has been elevated to the full squad. Middle-order batter Henry Nicholls has been included for the opening three matches, while Dean Foxcroft will feature in the latter stages of the series.
Paceman Matt Henry is expected to link up with the squad and undergo fitness assessment before being cleared to play. The squad adjustments highlight New Zealand's cautious approach to managing player fitness ahead of the critical India series.
