Char Dham pilgrimage season surges past 6 million visitors

The Char Dham yatra, one of India's most significant religious pilgrimages, has crossed the 6 million visitor mark this season, reflecting strong devotional interest in Uttarakhand's four sacred shrines. The circuit, which comprises Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri temples, has drawn unprecedented numbers of pilgrims throughout the season.

Badrinath Dham has established itself as the primary draw for devotees, registering approximately 2.07 million visitors so far this season. The shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu has maintained its position as the most visited site within the circuit, reflecting its centrality in Hindu pilgrimage traditions.

Kedarnath Dham, the second-largest contributor to the pilgrimage traffic, has welcomed around 1.78 million devotees during the same period. The temple dedicated to Lord Shiva continues to attract substantial numbers despite the challenging terrain and weather conditions characteristic of its high-altitude location in the Himalayas.

With the pilgrimage season now progressing toward its conclusion, authorities managing the Char Dham circuit are coordinating arrangements to ensure smooth operations and devotee safety during the final phase. The sustained footfall reflects the enduring spiritual significance of these ancient pilgrimage sites for Hindu devotees across India and abroad.
