Chennai airport opens dedicated cab pick-up plaza after two-year wait

The dedicated cab pick-up plaza at Chennai International Airport has commenced operations following a two-year delay in its completion. Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu virtually inaugurated the facility on Monday, marking a significant step toward enhancing ground transportation infrastructure at the airport.

The new plaza has been designed with a capacity to handle 28 vehicles concurrently across two dedicated pick-up lanes. Airport authorities expect the facility to substantially reduce congestion in the vehicle movement area and streamline the flow of cabs, auto-rickshaws, and other commercial vehicles serving arriving passengers.

During the virtual inauguration, Minister Naidu underscored the importance of such infrastructure improvements in enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency at major aviation hubs. He also apprised stakeholders of the progress on Terminal 3 at the airport, which is on track for completion by April 2027.

The inauguration of the pick-up plaza comes as part of broader modernisation efforts at Chennai airport to manage growing passenger traffic and improve ground-side facilities. The dedicated facility is expected to ease the burden on the main terminal building and provide a more organized experience for passengers arranging road transport.
