Chennai Petroleum profit surges 210% in Q2; declares ₹25 dividend

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) posted a net profit of ₹2,271 crore during the second quarter of financial year 2026-27, marking a significant turnaround from ₹732 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. The 210 per cent year-on-year growth in profit after tax underscores improved operational efficiency and favourable market conditions for the state-owned refiner.

The strong financial performance prompted the company to announce a dividend of ₹25 per share, rewarding shareholders for their continued investment. Market participants responded positively to the earnings announcement and dividend declaration, with CPCL's stock gaining 5 per cent in value. The gain stood out as notable given the broader market headwinds that saw most other equities trading lower during the session.

The substantial profit growth reflects the company's efforts to optimise its refining operations and manage its cost structure effectively. CPCL, which operates a major refinery complex in Chennai, benefits from both domestic demand recovery and stable crude oil pricing trends that have supported sector profitability in recent quarters. The results position the company favourably among peers in India's downstream petroleum sector.
