A man in Chennai fell victim to an unusual robbery in which criminals forced him to take out a digital loan before making off with the funds. After compelling the victim to apply for the loan through a mobile application, the robbers waited for approval before proceeding to an automated teller machine to withdraw the sanctioned amount.

Following the loan approval, the accused withdrew Rs 9,500 from an ATM, leaving the victim not only robbed but also saddled with a debt obligation. The case underscores how criminals are adapting their methods to exploit digital financial systems and unsuspecting victims.

The incident has raised concerns among law enforcement authorities about emerging robbery tactics that leverage digital lending platforms. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. Residents have been advised to exercise caution when withdrawing cash and to report suspicious activity to authorities immediately.

The Chennai police department has urged citizens to remain vigilant and to safeguard their personal information and mobile devices, particularly when accessing financial applications in public spaces.
