The Highways Department has floated tenders inviting consultants to develop a detailed project report for an elevated corridor connecting Lighthouse to Thiru. Vi. Ka. Bridge in Chennai. The project represents a significant infrastructure initiative aimed at improving traffic flow in the city.
The proposed corridor will traverse key arterial routes including Santhome High Road, Greenways Road, and Durgabai Deshmukh Road. The design incorporates a two-lane configuration for the initial 1.8-kilometre stretch, transitioning to a four-lane structure for the remaining portion of the corridor. This phased approach reflects traffic demand assessments for different sections of the route.
The project is estimated to require two years for completion from commencement of construction work. The tendering process for consultants marks the preliminary phase, with the detailed project report expected to provide comprehensive technical specifications, cost estimates, and implementation timelines. Once the consultant is appointed, the focus will shift to finalizing design specifications and securing necessary regulatory approvals before construction can commence.
