The Chhattisgarh police have dismantled a sophisticated currency fraud racket with inter-state operations, leading to the arrest of seven accused persons from Maharashtra. According to police officials, the criminal network targeted unsuspecting victims across state lines with an elaborate money multiplication scheme.
The accused operated by convincing their targets that they possessed a chemical solution capable of transforming blackened and damaged currency notes into new ones. The fraudsters further promised victims that they could double their money through this supposed chemical process, authorities said.
The investigation revealed that the gang employed deceptive tactics to build trust with potential victims before extracting money from them under the guise of processing fees and other charges. Police have registered cases against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies across the region to curb financial crimes and organised fraud networks. Authorities have appealed to citizens to remain vigilant against such schemes and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
