Rail connectivity reached Rowghat in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, marking a historic moment for the remote area in Kanker district. The opening of the Tadoki-Rowghat railway section represents the first rail link to the locality since India's independence, ending decades of isolation for the region.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai inaugurated both the Tadoki-Rowghat section and the Abhanpur-Kurud broad-gauge line during a ceremony that included the flagging off of passenger train services on the newly operational routes. The dual commissioning reflects the state government's emphasis on improving transportation infrastructure across Chhattisgarh.
The new rail connections are expected to significantly improve accessibility to essential services and facilitate economic activity in the region. Officials view the infrastructure development as crucial for enhancing mobility and reducing the geographical barriers that have historically hampered development in Bastar's remote pockets.
