Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made an unannounced visit to Mukherjee Nagar, a densely populated area hosting numerous students, where she engaged directly with young residents about their living conditions and academic needs.
During the interaction, students highlighted the severe shortage of institutional hostel accommodations, forcing many to seek private paying guest rooms and rented apartments at higher costs. The limited availability of on-campus or affiliated housing has emerged as a persistent challenge affecting student welfare in the region.
Responding to their concerns, Gupta assured the students that her administration would prioritize expanding hostel facilities and improving the overall accommodation infrastructure for the student community. She directed officials to undertake a comprehensive assessment of current housing capacity and develop action plans to address the shortfall.
The visit underscores growing attention to student welfare issues in the state, particularly in education hubs where affordable, secure housing remains a critical concern for young residents pursuing higher studies. Officials indicated that proposals for new hostel construction and dormitory upgrades would be fast-tracked in coordination with educational institutions.
