Chief Minister's aide set for Bawang Assan contest

Joshua Ting, an aide to Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg, is tipped to contest the Bawang Assan state seat in the forthcoming elections, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The anticipated candidacy would pit Ting against incumbent Wong Soon Koh, who has represented the constituency for seven consecutive terms. Wong's lengthy tenure has made him a familiar figure in the constituency, though succession planning appears underway within political circles.

Ting's close association with the Chief Minister's office has raised his profile within state political structures. His entry into the race would represent a significant generational shift in a seat that has remained under Wong's stewardship for decades.

No official announcement has been made regarding candidacy for the seat or the timing of upcoming elections. Political observers in Sarawak continue to monitor developments as preparations for the next electoral cycle advance.
