The young student succumbed to dengue-related complications in Chittagong, adding to the mounting toll of the disease in Bangladesh's second-largest metropolitan area. Health authorities have recorded numerous dengue cases across the city in recent weeks, with medical facilities reporting increased patient admissions.
Dengue fever, transmitted through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, has emerged as a recurring public health concern during Bangladesh's monsoon and post-monsoon seasons. The virus causes high fever, joint and muscle pain, and in severe cases can lead to life-threatening complications such as dengue hemorrhagic fever.
Local health officials have intensified awareness campaigns and mosquito control operations across Chittagong in response to the outbreak. Residents have been advised to eliminate standing water around their homes and take precautions to prevent mosquito breeding.
The death underscores the need for continued vigilance in disease prevention efforts. Health authorities urge residents experiencing symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, or rash to seek immediate medical attention at authorized health facilities.
