Police are investigating complaints from at least 25 people who say they were conned by a suspect who promised to procure rare and sought-after Pokémon collectible cards from overseas sources. The case has drawn attention after an 11-year-old boy filed a complaint stating he lost more than 1 million baht purchasing what was represented as a rare card through the accused individual.
The suspect allegedly operated by taking payments from customers interested in acquiring hard-to-find Pokémon cards, claiming access to international suppliers. Victims reported transferring substantial sums with the expectation of receiving authentic collectibles, only to find themselves without the promised items or the funds they had paid.
The accumulation of complaints from at least two dozen people suggests a pattern of systematic fraud targeting collectors of varying ages and experience levels. Authorities have begun compiling evidence from the complainants as the investigation proceeds into the alleged scheme.
The case highlights growing concerns about fraud targeting the collectible card market in Thailand, particularly among younger enthusiasts who may be vulnerable to deceptive promises regarding rare items. Police have encouraged additional victims to come forward with information about their dealings with the suspect.
