The Department of Social Welfare (JKM) in Kelantan has indicated its readiness to assume care of an infant who tested positive for narcotics, should the child's parents be found unsuitable as guardians. Che Samsuzuki Che Noh, the director of JKM Kelantan, said the protective measure would be activated if investigations determine that the parents cannot adequately care for the child. The move underscores the department's commitment to safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable children in cases involving substance use within families. The case highlights ongoing concerns about drug exposure in infants and the role of social welfare authorities in intervening to protect young children. Such interventions typically involve comprehensive assessments of family circumstances before any custody decisions are finalised.
