China Deploys 49 Fighter Jets Near Taiwan in 24-Hour Span

Taiwan's defense ministry documented an unprecedented concentration of Chinese military assets near the island on Monday, recording 49 fighter jets, six naval vessels, and six additional military craft within a 24-hour period. The incursion represents a significant show of force in the Taiwan Strait and reflects heightened tensions between Beijing and Taipei.
Among the aircraft deployed, 31 fighter jets crossed the median line dividing the Taiwan Strait and penetrated Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ), the buffer region extending beyond the island's airspace. Such coordinated movements are typically viewed as military posturing and are closely monitored by Taiwanese defense officials.
The activity follows months of elevated military operations in the region. Taiwan has attributed these sorties to China's assertive approach toward the self-governed island, which Beijing claims as its own territory. Taipei regularly scrambles its own fighter jets to intercept Chinese aircraft that enter its ADIZ.
Analysts have noted that the frequency and scale of these operations have climbed progressively throughout recent years, with activity levels approaching record highs recorded in 2026. Military observers view such deployments as attempts to demonstrate military capability and political resolve over Taiwan, though they stop short of direct military confrontation.
Neither Taiwan nor China immediately issued statements addressing the latest incursion, though Taipei's defense ministry maintains a publicly updated log of such activities for regional and international monitoring.
