China Eastern to expand Sabah operations with Beijing-Kota Kinabalu service
China Eastern Airlines is planning to launch a new direct route from Beijing to Kota Kinabalu while significantly increasing frequency on its Shanghai service, signalling growing confidence in the Malaysian state's aviation market.

The carrier has confirmed plans to add a Beijing-Kota Kinabalu route as part of a broader expansion strategy for Sabah, according to reports from Shanghai. The move comes as China Eastern seeks to capitalise on increasing demand for travel between China and Malaysia's eastern state.
In addition to the new Beijing service, the airline intends to boost its existing Shanghai-Kota Kinabalu flights, with plans to double or potentially triple current frequencies. This expansion underscores the airline's commitment to strengthening connectivity between major Chinese cities and Kota Kinabalu, a key gateway to East Malaysia.
The additional capacity is expected to facilitate increased tourist flows and business travel between China and Sabah. Kota Kinabalu has become an increasingly attractive destination for Chinese visitors, benefiting from its natural attractions and growing tourism infrastructure.
