China evacuates 54,000 as Typhoon Narra batters southwest

Chinese authorities have evacuated approximately 54,000 people from flood-affected areas in the southwest as Typhoon Narra unleashes heavy rainfall across the region. The mass relocation effort reflects the scale of the natural disaster, with more than 8,087 residents transferred to emergency shelters to escape rising water levels.

The typhoon has brought intense precipitation to southwestern China, triggering widespread flooding that has displaced residents from multiple communities. Emergency response teams have been mobilised to manage the evacuation process and provide shelter and aid to those affected by the disaster.

Local governments have activated emergency protocols to cope with the deluge, establishing temporary accommodation facilities to house displaced residents. The evacuation is expected to continue as weather forecasters monitor the typhoon's path and intensity across the region.

This evacuation marks one of the largest displacement efforts in the region in recent months, underscoring the severe impact of extreme weather events on southwestern China's population. Authorities have not yet provided estimates on potential damage to infrastructure and agricultural areas affected by the flooding.
