China imposes export curbs on solar technology amid supply chain tensions
Beijing has announced fresh restrictions on exporting key solar technologies, potentially disrupting global renewable energy supply chains. The move reflects growing trade tensions and China's dominance in the solar manufacturing sector.

China has introduced new export controls targeting critical technologies used in solar panel manufacturing, according to reports from state media and industry sources. The restrictions are expected to affect downstream producers who rely on Chinese components and expertise for solar equipment production worldwide.
The export limitations cover polysilicon processing techniques and other specialized manufacturing processes that form the backbone of modern photovoltaic production. Industry analysts suggest the controls may be linked to broader geopolitical tensions and China's efforts to maintain strategic leverage over global renewable energy development.
China dominates approximately 80 percent of the global solar supply chain, from raw material processing through panel assembly. The new restrictions could have significant implications for renewable energy projects across South Asia, including Pakistan, where solar power expansion has been identified as a key component of energy security strategies.
Renewable energy developers and equipment manufacturers in the region may face higher costs and supply delays as a result of the export controls. Market observers are monitoring whether other major economies will respond with counter-measures or seek alternative supply sources outside China.
