China intensifies Tibet mudslide rescue as flooding risk subsides
Rescue teams in Tibet have resumed intensive operations at a mudslide disaster site after the threat of catastrophic flooding from a newly formed lake diminished. The temporary halt to rescue efforts has now been lifted, allowing workers to focus on locating survivors and victims.

Chinese rescue personnel have refocused their efforts on the mudslide site in Tibet following a reduction in the immediate threat of renewed flooding from an impoundment lake created by the initial landslide. The temporary pause in operations, necessitated by fears of secondary inundation, has allowed authorities to assess water conditions and structural stability before resuming full-scale rescue activities.
The formation of a substantial lake behind the mudslide debris had previously posed a significant hazard to rescue teams working in the affected area. Engineers conducted preliminary assessments of the dam-like formation to determine the likelihood of catastrophic outflow. With those risks now deemed manageable, rescue operations have resumed at full intensity.
Rescue teams are now concentrating their search efforts across the mudslide zone, deploying heavy machinery and personnel to excavate debris and locate missing persons. The operation represents a critical window for finding survivors in the immediate aftermath of the disaster.
