China pledges emergency aid as Nepal flood death toll exceeds 650

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed Beijing's decision to provide emergency assistance to his Nepalese counterpart Shisir Khanal on Saturday, days after catastrophic flash floods struck the Tibet-Nepal border region on Wednesday. Wang characterized the disaster as the most severe cross-border calamity in recent years, citing the unprecedented complexity and difficulty of mounting an effective relief response.
Chinese relief supplies are expected to reach Kathmandu imminently, with two specialized tunnel rescue teams already en route to the affected areas to support ongoing recovery efforts. The timing of these deployments underscores the urgency of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the flood-devastated regions.
Beyond material assistance, China has provided Nepal with critical data to aid the response, including satellite imagery of affected areas, hydrological information, and early-warning details concerning an upstream barrier. This information-sharing arrangement reflects close coordination between the neighboring nations in managing the cross-border emergency.
