China purchases 1 million tonnes of US soybeans in latest trade deal
China has bought another 1 million tonnes of American soybeans, moving closer to fulfilling its annual commitment under trade agreements with the United States. The purchase brings Beijing's total US soybean acquisitions to nearly half of the 25 million tonnes it has pledged to buy yearly through 2028.

The soybean purchase represents continued progress in trade relations between Washington and Beijing following years of tariff disputes and trade tensions. The deal underscores China's reliance on American agricultural products to meet domestic demand for animal feed and food production.
Under its commitment through 2028, China is obligated to purchase 25 million tonnes of US soybeans annually. The latest transaction of 1 million tonnes brings cumulative purchases to approximately 12.5 million tonnes, representing roughly half of the annual target.
Soybeans remain one of the most significant agricultural commodities in US-China trade. American farmers, particularly those in the Midwest, depend heavily on Chinese demand to support prices and maintain market stability. The purchase signals continued Chinese interest in securing reliable supplies of the crop.
Agriculture has emerged as a key component of broader trade negotiations between the two nations. These soybean purchases are part of larger trade agreements aimed at reducing bilateral deficits and stabilising economic relations between Washington and Beijing.
