China's Exports Surge 25% in August on Auto, Tech Demand
China's exports accelerated sharply in August, rising 25 percent year-on-year as global demand for automobiles and high-technology goods strengthened. The robust trade performance comes as Beijing prepares for a planned late-September meeting between President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump.

China's customs agency reported Tuesday that outbound shipments jumped to their fastest pace in recent months, driven by buoyant international orders for vehicles and advanced electronics. The 25 percent year-on-year expansion marked a significant acceleration from July's 23.9 percent growth, signaling renewed momentum in the world's second-largest economy.
Imports into China also surged, climbing 28.2 percent from a year earlier compared with July's 27.5 percent increase. The combined effect of robust exports and strong import growth expanded China's trade surplus to $119.1 billion in August, up from $112.5 billion the previous month.
The trade figures underscore the resilience of China's export-oriented manufacturing sector despite ongoing global economic uncertainties. Analysts attribute the strength partly to sustained international demand for electric vehicles and semiconductor-related products, reflecting China's growing dominance in these strategic industries.
The data emerges as Beijing and Washington prepare for high-level talks aimed at addressing bilateral trade tensions. While Chinese officials have not confirmed the exact date, the meeting between Xi and Trump is scheduled for late September and is expected to address outstanding trade disputes between the two nations.
