China suspends Tibet rescue operations due to flooding threat

Rescue teams operating at the epicentre of a disaster in Tibet have been instructed to retreat to a safer distance as flood risks escalate in the affected region. Personnel who had previously gained access to the area have been ordered to withdraw approximately 1 kilometre, according to local emergency management officials.

The decision reflects growing concerns about secondary hazards threatening both survivors and rescue workers. Rising water levels in the region present an unpredictable and dangerous environment that could rapidly worsen conditions at the disaster site.

Chinese authorities have not indicated when rescue operations might resume at the primary disaster location. Emergency teams are expected to remain on standby at the safer perimeter, positioned to resume efforts if conditions improve.
