China vows to protect interests as US tightens Iran sanctions pressure

China's Foreign Ministry has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding national interests in the face of US sanctions threats targeting Iran. A ministry spokesman declared that Beijing's bilateral engagement with Tehran operates within the framework of international law and should not be subject to disruption or external pressure.

The remarks underscore growing tension between Washington and Beijing over their respective relationships with Iran. China, which relies significantly on Iranian oil imports, has previously resisted US pressure to curtail trade relations with Tehran.
