Chinese military deviations from protocol destabilise LAC, says MEA

The Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday said that deteriorating situations along the India-China border stem from Chinese military personnel abandoning agreed protocols for patrolling operations in frontier areas. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made the remarks while responding to statements from Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatruji Kapoor. Jaiswal underscored that whenever Chinese soldiers deviate from established patrolling procedures in bordering regions, it invariably leads to periodic flare-ups and tensions. The MEA's comments reflect New Delhi's position that adherence to bilateral agreements and standard operational procedures is essential for maintaining stability along the contested frontier. The remarks highlight ongoing friction between Indian and Chinese forces along the LAC, where both nations have maintained competing claims following their 1962 border war and subsequent military confrontations, including a significant clash in 2020 that left dozens dead.
