Chinese Navy Squadron Begins Five-Day Visit to Bangladesh

Three vessels from the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy have docked in Bangladesh as part of a scheduled five-day goodwill visit, underscoring deepening naval cooperation in the Indian Ocean region. The flotilla's arrival marks another chapter in the expanding defence and maritime relationship between Beijing and Dhaka.

Among the visiting ships is the Type 054A guided-missile frigate Da Qing, which demonstrated China's naval capabilities earlier this year during joint exercises with the Pakistan Navy designated "Sea Guardian." The participation of the same vessel in multiple regional engagements highlights China's strategy of building closer military ties across South Asia.

The visit encompasses port calls, official meetings, and cultural exchanges designed to foster understanding between the two navies. Such deployments have become increasingly common as regional powers seek to strengthen strategic partnerships and establish presence in vital sea lanes.

The arrival comes amid China's broader efforts to expand its naval footprint in the Indian Ocean, a region of critical importance for regional trade and geopolitical balance. Bangladesh, positioned strategically at the northern apex of the Bay of Bengal, has emerged as an important partner for Chinese military and economic initiatives in South Asia.
