Chinese robot clocks sub-9.33 seconds in 100m test run
A humanoid robot developed in China has completed a 100-metre sprint in 9.32 seconds during testing, surpassing Usain Bolt's longstanding world record of 9.58 seconds.

The robot, named Lightning, achieved the feat during a controlled test run, completing the distance faster than the Jamaican sprinter's record set in 2009. The development represents a significant milestone in robotics engineering and athletic performance simulation.
Lightning's performance demonstrates advances in mechanical design, motor control systems, and motion algorithms that enable humanoid robots to replicate and exceed human athletic capabilities. The test run was conducted under laboratory conditions with standardised parameters.
While the achievement marks a technical accomplishment for robotics research, it operates in a fundamentally different context from human competitive sport. Bolt's record remains the recognised world standard for human athletic performance and continues to stand as a benchmark in track and field.
The development of high-performance humanoid robots has attracted significant investment and research attention across Asia in recent years, with applications extending beyond athletics to manufacturing, logistics, and service industries.
