Chinese student pleads not guilty to stabbing ex-girlfriend and sister

The Chinese student appeared in court to deny charges related to the stabbing of his former female partner and her sibling. According to court documents, the defence team has filed an application to reduce the bail requirements imposed on the accused.

In their submission, the defence counsel argued that their client is currently suffering from depression and is actively pursuing his studies. The legal team contended that these circumstances demonstrate he poses no flight risk and should not be subject to stringent bail conditions.

The defence further emphasised that the accused has maintained ties to the community through his educational commitments, suggesting stability and reduced likelihood of absconding. The application seeks to ease restrictions that may hamper his ability to continue his academic pursuits while the case proceeds through the legal system.

The court has yet to rule on the bail modification request. The case will continue with the next scheduled hearing, during which the prosecution and defence are expected to present their respective arguments regarding bail terms and the merits of the charges.
