Chintha Jerome has been elected as the Kerala State president of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), becoming the first woman to hold the position in the State unit. The election, held during the organisation's State conference, reflects a shift in leadership dynamics within the youth wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
M. Vijin, a former State secretary of the Students Federation of India (SFI) and currently representing Kalliaseri in the State Assembly, was elected as the new State secretary of DYFI. The position of State treasurer went to R. Rahul of Alappuzha, completing the new leadership structure of the youth organisation.
The election results signal renewed emphasis within the DYFI to broaden its leadership base and enhance representation. Jerome's elevation to the top post is particularly noteworthy as it comes at a time when youth-centric political organisations across India are increasingly focusing on inclusive leadership practices.
The DYFI, established in 1948, is one of India's largest youth organisations with significant presence across Kerala. The new leadership team is expected to focus on mobilising youth around socio-economic and political issues affecting the State, particularly employment, education, and development concerns.
