Union Minister Chirag Paswan has lodged a formal complaint against Hindutva influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj, accusing him of misusing the politician's name and falsely claiming connections to the Lok Janshakti Party. The LJP sought a First Information Report against Bhardwaj, asserting that the activist has no affiliation with either Paswan or the party.
The action comes after Bhardwaj made claims of receiving political protection in the aftermath of an assault during a protest gathering at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi last month. According to party sources, these claims implied an association with Paswan's faction that does not exist.
Passwan's complaint underscores the LJP's concern about its name and political brand being invoked by unaffiliated individuals. The party described Bhardwaj's assertions as attempts to leverage political connections for credibility.
The incident reflects growing tensions between political figures and certain social media influencers who command significant followings in India's digital landscape.
