Chittagong Port Authority and DP World ink capacity expansion agreement

The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) and DP World, one of the world's leading port operators, have finalized a partnership agreement designed to strengthen the operational capabilities of Chittagong Port, the country's primary commercial seaport and a vital gateway for Bangladesh's international trade.

Under the accord, the two entities will collaborate to increase container handling capacity, streamline port operations, and implement modern technologies at the facility. The partnership comes as Bangladesh seeks to enhance its maritime infrastructure amid growing trade volumes and increasing competition from regional ports in South and Southeast Asia.

Chittagong Port, located on the Bay of Bengal, handles the majority of Bangladesh's containerized cargo and remains critical to the nation's economic development. The capacity enhancement initiative is expected to reduce vessel turnaround times, improve cargo clearance procedures, and strengthen the port's competitiveness in regional maritime trade corridors.

DP World operates port facilities across multiple continents and brings extensive expertise in terminal operations, automation, and port development. The company's involvement is anticipated to introduce international best practices and operational standards to Chittagong Port, benefiting businesses and shippers reliant on the facility for export and import activities.
