Chittoor district eyes tourism boom with infrastructure push, temple focus

The Chittoor District Tourism Council has undertaken a comprehensive review of the region's tourism potential, assessing opportunities across all six parliamentary constituencies to unlock growth in the sector. The exercise has identified significant infrastructure shortcomings and pinpointed areas requiring targeted investment to enhance visitor experiences.

District Collector Sumit Kumar has flagged the ancient Puligundu and Ardhagiri temples as flagship destinations in the development roadmap. These religious sites are positioned as catalysts for attracting both domestic and international tourists, with the administration prioritizing their infrastructure upgrades and accessibility improvements.

The tourism council's findings suggest that while Chittoor district possesses considerable heritage and natural attractions, inadequate facilities have hindered its capacity to compete with established tourism circuits in the region. The strategic review aims to address these gaps and create an investment-friendly environment for hospitality and allied sectors.

Official plans now focus on leveraging religious tourism as a primary growth lever while developing complementary facilities including accommodation, transportation, and food service infrastructure. The district hopes the coordinated approach will position it as a preferred destination within Andhra Pradesh's broader tourism ecosystem.
