Chittoor district to develop twin rock peaks as adventure tourism hub

The Chittoor district administration has unveiled plans to develop the distinctive twin rock peaks at Puligundu into a comprehensive tourism facility that capitalizes on the site's natural and cultural assets. Located near the district headquarters, the geological formations rising to 1,000 feet will serve multiple visitor segments, from adventure sports enthusiasts to pilgrims and nature conservationists.

According to District Collector Sumit Kumar, the development strategy will prioritize sustainable use of the natural landscape. The initiative includes constructing graded trekking trails that cater to varying fitness levels, establishing rock climbing and bouldering sites that leverage the existing rock formations, and introducing a zip-line connection between the two peaks to enhance the adventure experience.

The twin peaks hold significance both as a natural landmark and a religious site, making the development plan inherently suited to diverse tourism segments. By integrating adventure sports infrastructure with ecological preservation measures and temple tourism facilities, the district aims to create an economically viable destination while maintaining environmental integrity.

The project reflects a growing trend across South India of leveraging geographical features and cultural heritage for sustainable tourism development. If implemented as planned, the Puligundu site could attract adventure seekers, trekkers, and spiritual visitors while generating employment and revenue for the surrounding communities in Chittoor district.
