Chouhan attacks Punjab government over drug trafficking crisis

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched a scathing attack on the Punjab government on Tuesday, accusing it of providing safe haven to drug traffickers operating across the state. Speaking at a public event, Chouhan claimed Punjab has become synonymous with drug-related crimes under the current administration's watch.

Chouhan alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party government, which came to power in Punjab in 2022, has failed to contain the narcotics crisis gripping the state. He characterised the governance model as what he termed the 'MOD Model'—Model of Drug Development—suggesting systemic failure in controlling substance abuse and trafficking.

The Union Minister's remarks reflect growing concerns over drug trafficking networks operating in Punjab, a state long grappling with narcotics-related challenges. He claimed the AAP administration is marred by crime, corruption and commission, suggesting governance failures on multiple fronts.

Chouhan's criticism comes amid ongoing political tensions between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party over issues including governance, law and order, and drug control measures in Punjab. The state has historically faced significant challenges related to drug trafficking and consumption, which continues to be a major law and order concern.
