CHR Clarifies Stand on Missing PDL Funds Investigation

MANILA — The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Friday moved to clarify statements regarding its position on the handling of allegedly missing funds from persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City.
The rights body stressed that it did not state there was "no need" to conduct separate investigations into the missing trust fund allegations. The CHR said its earlier statement was issued to prevent the spread of misinformation about its actual stance on the issue.
The clarification comes as concerns grow over proper handling of inmate funds and the need for transparency in correctional facilities. The CHR has emphasized the importance of thorough and independent inquiries to establish accountability and protect the rights of vulnerable individuals in state custody.
