Christian group seeks to halt Baguio horror festival over moral concerns

BAGUIO CITY — A Christian advocacy group has formally requested the city council to prohibit a planned horror festival scheduled for October, citing concerns that the event would contradict community standards and spread imagery associated with death and the occult.

Marketing professional Eric Pangilinan, who spearheaded an online petition against the convention, presented the group's objections during a city council session on Monday. The petition has garnered support from residents who share reservations about hosting such an event in the mountainous city, historically known as a family-oriented destination.

Proponents of the block argue that the horror convention's content and themes are misaligned with Baguio's cultural identity and the values held by a significant portion of its population. The group contends that allowing the event to proceed could influence younger residents and damage the city's reputation as a wholesome destination for tourism and recreation.

The city council has yet to issue a formal decision on the petition. The matter now rests with municipal officials to weigh the concerns raised by the faith-based organization against any permits or commitments already made to event organizers.
