Residents and environmental assessors have documented yellow-coloured groundwater and patches of yellow-green topsoil — both telltale indicators of chromium contamination — across multiple localities.
The discoloration of both subsurface and surface soil layers suggests widespread infiltration of heavy metals into the water table. Chromium, a toxic element commonly used in industrial processes including leather tanning, electroplating, and steel manufacturing, poses significant health risks when present in drinking water at elevated concentrations.
The contamination pattern indicates that industrial waste has seeped into the groundwater system over an extended period without adequate containment or treatment measures.
