MANILA — The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has called for the blocking of a website that livestreamed the Zamboanga school shooting, undersecretary Renato Paraiso announced Thursday during a Senate committee hearing on women and children.
Paraiso told the committee that authorities identified and flagged the website following the August 18 incident. He emphasized that the platform has accumulated a significant following, amplifying concerns about the harmful content it disseminated.
The recommendation to ban the site comes as policymakers and security officials grapple with the role of social media and streaming platforms in amplifying violent incidents. The case has renewed focus on the need for stricter content moderation and rapid response protocols to prevent the further spread of footage depicting mass casualty events.
The CICC's recommendation will likely be forwarded to relevant agencies for implementation, though details on the timeline and specific mechanisms for blocking the website remain unclear.
