CISF restructures command system with specialized sector focus

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is undertaking a significant organisational overhaul designed to strengthen security operations across India's critical infrastructure sectors. Beginning November 1, eight of the paramilitary force's 11 supervisory sectors will transition from territorial-based command structures to functionally-specialised units, marking a departure from the force's traditional geographic framework.

Under the new arrangement, dedicated commands will be established to oversee security operations in strategically important sectors including power generation and distribution, coal mining, steel manufacturing, oil and gas facilities, and port operations. This sector-specific approach aims to align CISF's security protocols with the unique operational requirements and vulnerabilities inherent to each industry vertical.

The restructuring reflects evolving security challenges across India's critical infrastructure landscape and represents an effort to enhance operational efficiency by consolidating expertise and resources within specialised commands. The three remaining supervisory sectors will retain their existing command structure under the revised framework.

The CISF, which maintains security at over 300 critical industrial facilities nationwide, has approximately 180,000 personnel. The reorganisation is expected to improve threat response capabilities and coordination across India's vital economic sectors.
