CISF to boost counter-drone capabilities across critical infrastructure

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has entered into a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening counter-drone expertise among its security personnel across the country. The initiative comes as the force intensifies efforts to address emerging aerial threats at the high-value installations it protects.

The CISF operates security operations at more than 370 facilities nationwide, many of which fall within strategically sensitive sectors. These include civil aviation airports, nuclear power stations, space research facilities and oil refineries—all potential targets for unmanned aerial vehicle incursions.

The paramilitary force has been formally designated as the nodal agency responsible for tackling aerial threats at these critical infrastructure sites. This designation underscores the growing recognition of drone-related security vulnerabilities at India's most sensitive installations in recent years.

Through the new MoU, CISF personnel will undergo enhanced training programmes to identify, track and neutralize unauthorized drone activities. The upskilling initiative is expected to equip security staff with both theoretical knowledge and practical capabilities to respond effectively to unmanned aerial threats.

The move represents a significant step in modernizing security protocols at India's critical installations, ensuring that personnel remain prepared to counter evolving technological challenges to national security infrastructure.
