Citizen group demands transparency on Pallikaranai marshland study findings

A citizen collective has pressed for greater transparency regarding critical research on Chennai's Pallikaranai marshland, alleging that key findings remain inaccessible to the public. The group has specifically demanded the establishment of an independent panel to examine the conclusions of the Thiruppugazh Committee, whose final report was completed in May 2023.

The committee's extensive study examined 1,189 square kilometres of the region and analysed three decades of flood data to assess the marshland's role in Chennai's water management and flood mitigation. Despite the significance of this research, the citizens' collective contends that the report has not been made available in the public domain, limiting scrutiny of its recommendations.
