The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has appealed to voters in Visakhapatnam to cast their votes in favour of Left party candidates participating in the ongoing Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) municipal elections.
The trade union organisation, which maintains close ties with Left parties across India, highlighted the historical commitment of communist and socialist parties towards advancing workers' interests and implementing welfare-oriented policies at the municipal level.
CITU officials underscored that Left party candidates have consistently prioritised issues affecting working-class communities, including affordable housing, workers' safety standards, and equitable public services in urban areas.
The appeal comes as voters prepare to elect representatives for the GVMC, one of Andhra Pradesh's largest civic bodies. The municipal corporation covers Visakhapatnam city and surrounding areas, serving millions of residents.
The election assumes significance as municipal corporations determine local governance priorities, including public health infrastructure, sanitation systems, and worker-friendly civic policies that directly impact residents' daily lives.
