MANILA — A civic organization in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has pressed the national government to prioritize negotiations on an exit agreement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), describing the accord as critical to resolving decades-long conflict in the region.
AMANA BARMM released the appeal on Tuesday, welcoming recent statements from Malacañan about the proposed agreement, which would establish terms for the MILF's transition away from its armed operations and integration into civilian governance structures.
The exit agreement represents one of the remaining milestones in the comprehensive peace framework being negotiated between the government and the separatist group. The accord is intended to address security concerns, institutional arrangements, and the modalities for decommissioning MILF forces.
The group's statement reflects growing momentum among Bangsamoro stakeholders for closure on the long-running peace talks. Completion of the exit agreement is seen as instrumental in cementing gains from previous accords and enabling the full normalization of relations between the government and the MILF.
No timeline for the exit agreement negotiations has been publicly announced by either the government or the MILF.
