Abhijeet Dipke, founder of Citizens for Justice Platform (CJP), addressed a gathering at Jantar Mantar in Kochi on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The protest, styled as 'Jantar Mantar @ Kochi', brought together citizens expressing concerns about the electoral process. Dipke used the platform to voice sharp criticism of the Central government's handling of electoral administration, asserting that political change would come with the next general elections.
"Modi will go out in 2029," Dipke said, referring to the scheduled end of the current government's term. His remarks underscored the growing scrutiny of electoral bodies and their functioning among civil society groups.
The SIR process, which aims to update and verify voter rolls, has drawn criticism from various quarters over its implementation and the validity of data used in the revision. The CEC's office oversees the Election Commission's operations during electoral cycles.
