CJP Leader Alleges Delaying Tactics in Activist Detention Case

A prominent Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader has levelled accusations that authorities are deliberately using procedural delays to extend the detention of two party activists, characterising the arrests as illegal and unfounded. The remarks underscore mounting tension between the party and state officials over what the CPI(M) views as unjustified custody.

The allegations surfaced as the Communist Party of India and opposition groups staged demonstrations in Delhi, specifically targeting the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The electoral review process has become a flashpoint between ruling and opposition factions, with critics contending it is being deployed arbitrarily.

The CPI(M) has sought the immediate release of the two detainees, maintaining that their arrest lacks legal justification. Party officials have indicated they view the prolonged custody as part of a broader pattern of obstruction designed to impede party activities and suppress dissent.

Government authorities have not yet responded publicly to the allegations of deliberate delay tactics. The case remains under scrutiny as opposition groups continue to mobilise against what they characterise as governmental overreach in electoral and administrative matters.
