Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, both leaders of the Citizens for Justice Party (CJP), have been placed in judicial custody following their detention on October 13. Police alleged the two men breached barricades at Jantar Mantar during a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The arrests have drawn sharp criticism from within the CJP, with party spokesperson Dipke condemning the government's actions. Dipke characterized the detention as part of what he termed an "unofficial emergency," accusing authorities of suppressing dissent and overstepping constitutional bounds.
The incident marks the latest in a series of confrontations between protest groups and security forces in the national capital. The CJP had organized the demonstration to press demands regarding election commission leadership, citing concerns over electoral conduct and institutional autonomy.
Legal proceedings against the detained leaders are expected to continue as the matter moves through the court system. The CJP has indicated it plans to pursue all available legal remedies and has called on citizens to support what it describes as a struggle for democratic rights.
