Clash at Jadavpur University as student groups clash over general body meeting

Tensions escalated at Jadavpur University as rival student groups descended into conflict during a general body meeting, marking the latest in a series of campus disputes in West Bengal's premier institution. The clash between ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) supporters and left-backed student unions left multiple students injured and forced intervention by campus authorities.

The ABVP alleged that their supporters were assaulted and manhandled by members of the left-wing student organizations during the meeting. The party-backed student wing claimed the violence was unprovoked and accused the opposing groups of employing intimidation tactics to suppress their participation in campus activities.

Counering these claims, student leaders associated with the left unions rejected allegations of organized aggression. They contended that BJP MLA Sarbari Mukherjee had a hand in orchestrating the violence before subsequently blaming student activists for the disturbances. The student leaders suggested the confrontation was part of a larger political strategy rather than an organic campus dispute.

University administration has initiated an investigation into the incident as tensions continue to simmer on campus. The clash underscores the intensifying factional divisions among student groups at Jadavpur University, where political affiliations increasingly influence campus governance and activities.
