Clashes erupt in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as PTI protests governor's rule

Violent clashes broke out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday as supporters of Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) took to the streets to protest against the imposition of governor's rule in the region.

The PTI accused law enforcement of using excessive force during the demonstrations, claiming police deployed tear gas and opened fire on unarmed protesters. The party did not provide immediate casualty figures from the confrontation.

Government authorities rejected the allegations of disproportionate response, asserting that police acted within prescribed protocols to maintain order. Provincial officials characterized the incidents as isolated disturbances rather than widespread unrest.

According to police statements, at least 50 individuals were taken into custody during the day's disturbances. The arrests were reportedly made across multiple locations where the protests occurred.

The demonstrations underscore ongoing political tensions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province long considered a stronghold for the PTI. The imposition of governor's rule typically indicates direct federal administration of provincial affairs.
