Classes suspended in Pampanga, Benguet as monsoon rains intensify

Face-to-face classes were suspended across select areas of Pampanga and Benguet on Thursday, August 27, as the southwest monsoon system intensifies rainfall across northern and central Luzon.

The class suspensions were implemented to ensure student and staff safety amid the inclement weather conditions. Authorities in Pampanga previously declared a state of calamity as the province braced for the monsoon's impact.

The southwest monsoon, locally known as the "habagat," typically brings heavy precipitation to western portions of Luzon during the summer months. Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant for flooding and landslide risks associated with the persistent rainfall.

Educational authorities have yet to announce whether classes will resume on subsequent days, pending assessments of weather conditions and infrastructure damage across the provinces.
