Cleanup activist removes 585 kg waste from Delhi's Yamuna river

Surender Singh Chaudhary, popularly known as Bittu Tabahi, has extended his river cleanup campaign to the Yamuna in the national capital, continuing efforts that have earned him recognition across central India. The environmental activist, who previously gained prominence for his work cleaning the Ajnar river in Madhya Pradesh, has now turned his attention to one of India's most polluted waterways.

In a recent cleanup drive lasting four and a half hours, Chaudhary managed to extract 585 kilograms of waste from the Yamuna. The effort has generated significant social media attention, with videos of his work circulating widely across digital platforms. The cleanup drive highlights the persistent waste management challenges facing Delhi's river systems.

Chaudhary's initiative comes as the Yamuna continues to struggle with pollution from industrial effluent, sewage, and municipal waste despite numerous government-led cleanup projects over the past two decades. His on-ground efforts underscore the ongoing need for sustained cleanup operations to restore the river's ecological health. Environmental activists have long advocated for comprehensive waste management solutions and stricter pollution control measures in the Yamuna basin.
