Co-accused seeks house arrest following stroke, court told
Juliet Calvo, a former DPWH official facing malversation charges linked to ex-Rep. Zaldy Co, has petitioned the Sandiganbayan for house arrest on medical grounds after suffering a stroke.
LSN Philippines ·
MANILA — Juliet Calvo, the former maintenance division chief of the Department of Public Works and Highways in Region IV-B, has requested placement under house arrest due to health complications, according to court filings before the Sandiganbayan.
Calvo is co-accused in a malversation case involving former Ako Bicol party-list Representative Zaldy Co. The petition was filed with one of the Sandiganbayan's divisions as Calvo seeks alternative custody arrangements in light of her recent stroke.
The case against Co and Calvo centers on allegations of misappropriation of public funds. Calvo's medical condition has prompted the request for modified detention conditions, with her legal representatives arguing that house arrest would be a more appropriate arrangement given her health status.
The Sandiganbayan, the country's anti-graft court, will determine whether to grant the petition. The decision could impact the timeline and procedures of the ongoing case against the two co-accused.
